Christopher R. Lopez (1992-2009)
This race is to honor Chris Lopez. He passed away September 26, 2009 after completing a cross country meet at West Valley High. We chose Greenhorn Park in Yreka, CA because of the memories we all shared with Chris. This park has miles of dirt trail and one mile of paved. It ranges from flat to very steep and meets the needs of any level runner.
There are three races this year to complement those levels. The one mile walk is on mostly paved trail and navigates around the Greenhorn Resevoir. This is a family friendly race and is perfect for strollers. The 5K is more challenging. The difficulty of this trail ranges from paved, to single width trail, to a steep climb, and is primarily a dirt course that finishes on grass. The 10K begins the same as the 5K, then turns for a 2 mile semi gradual 500 foot climb high above the park and finishes on grass.
Chris was a tough runner. We wanted a course that complimented his running style. One that is diverse, encompasses all terrains including a potential water crossing, dirt, gravel, rocks, steep trails, rolling terrain, little pavement, and an unpredictable environment.. We will be having awards, drawings, and goody bags for every runner. We hope you all enjoy!

Chris Lopez Scholarship Fund
The Chris Lopez Scholarship was set up by his family as a way to assist graduating runners to further their education in college. It currently is held by United Scholarship, Inc. This year we awarded two $500 scholarships to a male and female senior cross country runner. We hope to expand this scholarship and award more in the near future. Money raised from this race will go to the Yreka High School Cross Country Team and to fund the Chris Lopez Scholarship.
THANK YOUThank you to all the volunteers, prize donations, and organizations who made this race possible this year and hopefully for many years to come. It wouldn't be happening without your help.
